How to Find Customers Without Trying

April 13, 2022     in Sales & Marketing, Start Here     by Mony      1 Comment

While some cleaning businesses seek commercial clients, others prefer house cleaning clients. Both have their own challenges when it comes to client acquisition. But when it comes to acquiring house cleaning clients, let me tell you what definitely won’t work – asking how to find house cleaning clients.

If you’re totally new to this and haven’t had any clients before, this approach may work, though in that case, I’ll urge you to read our guide on getting your first cleaning client.

Nonetheless, after a point, you have to stop actively looking out for clients and let them find you instead.

But why? And how do you do that?

That’s what we’ll talk about in this article – how to find house cleaning clients without trying.

Let Them Find You

80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts. Keep this in mind as we try to understand why chasing clients is a waste of your time and resources.

It’s much easier to sell your product to someone who needs it than to convince someone to buy your products that may not need it. If you’re actively trying to find and reach out to potential clients, you’ll come across many people who just don’t need your cleaning services right now.

As a result, you’ll be wasting a huge chunk of your time and resources that are better spent on other things, which we’ll talk about in a minute.

Here are some marketing strategies that could be a potential waste of time when you’re looking to get house cleaning clients –

  1. Door-to-Door Sales
  2. Cold Calling
  3. Facebook Ads
  4. Google Ads

While Facebook ads and Google ads are somewhat effective, overall, you’ll still be playing a numbers game. The only time I recommend using Facebook ads is if you’re retargeting. I talk about this article – how to get cleaning clients fast.

So what do we do instead? How to find house cleaning clients without actually looking out for them?

Here’s what you gotta do – build a strong online presence. Put most of your time and resources into building a solid brand image. If you do it right, the right clients will reach out to you instead of the other way around.

List your Business on Yelp, Thumbtack and Google Local Services

Unlike other industries, we don’t need to spend our marketing budgets on social media or other forms of content marketing.

In the cleaning business industry, the first step to building a strong online presence is to list your business on Yelp, Thumbtack and Google Local Services.

My cleaning business, Maid to Glow, gets over 90% of its booking for these platforms. So, list your business on these platforms. Fill out all the relevant information.

The key to getting house cleaning clients on these platforms is to have all your information filled out, have compelling images and have a lot of positive reviews. That’s how you stand out there.

Check out our guide on how to set up your Yelp, Thumbtack and Google Local Services profile for maximum results.

Referrals & Word of Mouth

I have talked about referrals and word-of-mouth many times before, and I’ve always maintained that it’s one of the best old-school methods for getting cleaning clients.

Of course, do an excellent job first, then ask your clients if they are happy and satisfied with your services or not. If they say yes, you can go ahead and ask them to refer you to their friends and family.

It works great because you get similar clients through referrals. So, if you cleaned someone’s house, they’ll most likely refer you to other house cleaning jobs.

Partner with Similar Businesses

Another great old-school method. Partner with similar businesses like event planners, decorations, real estate agents, etc. Businesses that have similar audiences and sell similar services as yours.

Market Yourself As a House Cleaning Business

It’s crucial to focus all your efforts in one direction. If you only want house cleaning clients, you should market your business as such. I see too many cleaning businesses hopping from one niche to another or sailing two boats at once.

There’s nothing inherently wrong with that, but understand that your results will be all over the place. There’ll be very little consistency.

However, if you only market your business as a house cleaning business and stick to it, you’ll get much better and more consistent results.

Plus, if you want clients to find you instead of the other way around, you have to be the best at what they are looking for.

Put yourself in their shoes for a second.

If you’re looking to get your house cleaned, who would you rather hire – someone who only cleans houses and is an expert in that or someone who cleans houses as well as commercial spaces and is decent at both.

See what I’m saying?

Set Up a Website that Converts

The last point is somewhat unrelated to the topic of how to find house cleaning clients, but it’s really important.

You should have a website that converts.

What do I mean by that?

Your website should have everything that helps the customers make a decision.

It should answer all the questions or doubts they have before they can even ask. The interface should be smooth and effortless to use. You don’t wanna confuse your clients, or they will leave. It should encourage people to buy add-ons and extras. Check out how to upsell cleaning services to know more about this.

Nonetheless, it’s crucial to have your website and booking process on point. Other than this guide to setting up your cleaning business website, Maidily is a great tool to create a great website.

Final Thoughts

So, that’s how to find house cleaning clients – you don’t. As I said before, the most important thing is to have your Yelp, Thumbtack and Google Local Services profile on point. Also, your Google My Business page.

Other than that, check out the 6 ways to promote your cleaning business to find more new ideas.
